21st Annual Cesar Chavez March and Program - 2014

On Thursday March 27th, over 50 United Way Silicon Valley volunteers and staff members joined the Alum Rock Union School District, Somos Mayfair and other community partners for the 21st Annual Cesar Chavez March & Program.

The event started with Alum Rock Union School District students from across East San Jose marching from their schools to the Mexican Heritage Plaza to celebrate the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez. The students marched proudly while waving flags, signs and chanting inspirational sayings, reminding the community that the notion of “Si Se Puede/Yes, We Can!” is still at the heart of its spirit.

At the Plaza, which was packed with around 1,700 students, parents, community members and volunteers, the program included remarks from the Chavez family, student poetry, traditional dances from classes at Cesar Chavez Elementary and performances from students at the School of Arts & Culture.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success including our United Way volunteers from Target, Kohls and the Center for Employment Training. View photos here.
