Credit Coaching

Helping Individuals and Families Set and Achieve Financial Goals

Credit Coaching is part of United Way Silicon Valley's Income Strategy. The Credit Coaching program matches trained volunteers with hard working individuals and families in Santa Clara County who are interested in improving their credit and financial management skills. Volunteer credit coaches are trained to educate individuals and families about existing free resources and to support them as they adapt the use of these resources in their everyday lives.

A decent credit score is critical to achieving financial stability. Credit scores are more important now than ever before. They are used by lenders, landlords and increasingly by employers to assess a person's worthiness, not only for credit or a loan, but also to rent a home or to get a job. Take Action. Volunteer as a Credit Coach

Become a volunteer Credit Coach and support individuals and families in their goal to reach financial stability and improve their quality of life. Volunteers who have been selected to participate in the Credit Coaching program will be provided with 8 hours of training, which will develop their cultural competency to serve low-income families as well as the understanding of the fundamental components of credit coaching. These fundamental components are principally comprised of coaching individuals to successfully and sustainable use free online resources.

A one-year commitment is required from each volunteer credit coach. During the one-year period, a credit coach will volunteer a maximum of 56 hours, about 4 hours in-person per month. All prospective Credit Coaching volunteers who work with participants will be required to undergo a background screening. Learn more about becoming a volunteer credit coach (PDF).
