Day Of Caring
October 10, 2007
United Way Silicon Valley’s Day of Caring is a community-wide civic engagement event bringing together hundreds of volunteers in hands-on group projects at various United Way agencies.
Why Volunteer?
| • |
Volunteers experience the satisfaction of making a positive difference in Santa Clara County. |
| • |
Companies benefit from teamwork and morale building, in addition to public recognition for participation.
|
| • |
Agencies save money and/or can provide an additional service to clients because of the hours donated by volunteers. |
| • |
Our community becomes more vital as volunteers expand the capacity of United Way agencies by supplying needed labor and demonstrating how community engagement can make a positive impact on community problems. |
| • |
Volunteers can learn about the needs and issues in their community. |
Participation is Easy
Local non-profit agencies inform us of their needs and we create a list of projects. Volunteers from companies in Santa Clara County select the project(s) they would like to complete.
Sample projects from previous Day of Caring include:
| • |
Painting the interiors and exteriors of agencies |
| • |
Gardening and landscaping |
| • |
Sorting food and clothing for distribution to clients |
| • |
Assisting with arts and craft projects for children, seniors, and developmentally disabled clients. |
